The SKA precursor telescope ASKAP opens in Australia

5 October 2012, Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory, Western Australia – The official opening ceremony of CSIRO’s Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) and the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory (MRO) was held today in Western Australia.

The event marks the completion of the 36 antennas of the ASKAP telescope and the start of preparations for operation. The ASKAP radio telescope is providing an important test bed for SKA technology and will itself be integrated into phase one of the SKA.
